9-Day Cameroon Butterfly Expedition

This butterfly expedition will take you through a variety of landscapes and ecosystems of Cameroon: from the lush forests of Buea to the pristine beaches of Kribi and with a strong emphasis on butterflies and moths. The best months to see butterflies in Cameroon are generally during the dry season, particularly from November to February , but the seasons have been shifting since the last ten years.

Cameroon has over 1,500 butterfly species (many endemic), and the country features diverse habitats from lowland rainforests to montane areas. Butterflies are most active, diverse, and visible when conditions are drier and sunnier—rain can reduce activity, as large-winged insects like butterflies avoid heavy downpours, and flowering/nectar sources may vary seasonally. Activity and diversity drops noticeably in the wet season (especially June–September, when rainfall is extreme in places like the southwest).

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Douala and Transfer to Limbe

Upon arrival in Douala, you will be welcomed by our local guide and butterfly specialist. After completing the necessary formalities, we will transfer you to Limbe, a beautiful coastal town. Settle into your hotel, where you will enjoy a relaxing dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Exploring Limbe and Trekking in Buea's Forest Park

After breakfast we’ll leave on an early drive to Buea. Here, you'll begin your adventure with a trek through the Cameroon Mountain Forest Park, a haven for butterfly enthusiasts. Spend the morning catching and observing butterflies in their natural habitat. Enjoy lunch on-site before continuing your butterfly expedition in the afternoon. Return to Limbe in the evening for a restful night at your hotel.

After breakfast, we'll head back to Buea for another exciting day of trekking and butterfly catching in the forest park. After breakfast, we'll depart Limbe and drive to Kribi, a coastal paradise. En route, we'll stop in Edea, another excellent location for butterfly watching and catching. The journey continues to Kribi, where you'll check into your hotel. Enjoy dinner and relax in this charming seaside town.

Day 7: Discovering Butterfly Habitats Around Kribi

Start your day with breakfast before heading out to explore various butterfly habitats around Kribi. After lunch, continue your butterfly activities in the afternoon. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
